Why is my upload stuck, slow, or failing (or won't take folders)?

Most upload trouble comes down to one of three things: the browser uploader's limits, a dropped connection, or a full disk. Working through them in order usually clears the problem fast.

Why uploads fail

The web uploader handles folders poorly and struggles with very large or numerous files, especially on a flaky connection. A full disk quota will also block uploads outright. SFTP sidesteps most of these issues.

How to fix it

  1. For folders or many files, use SFTP — the browser uploader handles folders poorly.
  2. Check you have free disk space in the Files header; a full quota blocks uploads.
  3. On a flaky connection, upload a single archive and unarchive it, rather than many small files.
  4. Retry over SFTP if a web upload repeatedly fails partway.

Tip: SFTP resumes and handles interruptions far better than the browser for anything large.
