Can I move my VPS to another node?
A VPS stays on the node it was provisioned on — node migration isn't available for VPS instances. If you need a different location or a fresh machine, the approach is to provision a new VPS and move your data across yourself.
Why there's no node migration
Unlike some services, a VPS is tied to the node it was created on, so we don't offer moving an existing instance between nodes.
- We don't offer node migration for VPS instances.
- This applies whether you want a different node in the same region or a different region entirely.
Moving to a new location or machine
The reliable path is to stand up a new VPS and migrate your data yourself.
- Provision a new VPS in the region or configuration you want.
- Back up your data from the old VPS (download over SSH/SFTP).
- Restore that data onto the new VPS.
- Once you've confirmed everything works on the new machine, cancel the old one.
Warning: Deleting your old VPS permanently wipes its data immediately, so complete your data transfer and verify it before cancelling anything.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move to another region? Not by migrating — provision a new VPS in that region and migrate your data yourself.
Can I keep my IP on a move? Not applicable — there's no node migration for VPS, so a new VPS gets its own IP.
