VPS & Linux

How do I reinstall my VPS or change its operating system?

You can reinstall your VPS with a fresh operating system whenever you need a clean slate or a different OS. The reinstall and OS-selection flow is moving to our new VPS panel, so we'll make sure you're on the current steps.

Before you reinstall

A reinstall wipes the machine completely, so a little preparation protects your data.

  1. Back up anything you want to keep first — worlds, files, databases, configs.
  2. Download your data over SFTP or through your file tools before starting.
  3. Double-check you've saved everything, because there's no undo once the reinstall begins.

Warning: A reinstall permanently erases the current OS and all data on the VPS. Download anything important beforehand — it cannot be recovered afterward.

Requesting a reinstall or OS change

The reinstall/OS options are moving to our new VPS panel, so the exact steps are changing during the rollout.

  1. Decide which OS you'd like to end up on.
  2. Open a ticket to reinstall or switch OS.
  3. We'll either handle the reinstall for you or walk you through the current flow on the new panel.
