VPS & Linux

My VPS shows offline or "no internet" — what should I check?

When a VPS shows as offline or reports "no internet," the cause is often something in your own configuration — a VPS is unmanaged, so you control the OS and networking. Here's how to check the common culprits, and we're here if it turns out to be on our side.

What to check first

Work through these in order — most offline states are resolved by one of them.

  1. Confirm the VPS is powered on and reachable by pinging its IP.
  2. Check any firewall (ufw/iptables) or network config you've changed — a misconfigured firewall commonly locks out access or breaks networking.
  3. Reboot the VPS.
  4. If it's genuinely unreachable at the host level after that, open a ticket and we'll investigate.

Warning: On an unmanaged VPS, a firewall rule or network edit you make can cut off your own access. Change networking carefully and always keep a way back in, such as console access.

When it's on our side

If you've ruled out your own configuration and the machine is still unreachable at the host level, that's when to reach out.

  • Open a ticket describing what you've already checked.
  • We'll confirm whether there's a host-side issue and keep you updated.

Frequently asked questions

I locked myself out with my own firewall — now what? You may need console access to fix it from inside the machine. Ask us and we'll help you get in.

Is it a host-side outage? If it is, we'll confirm and update you via Discord or your ticket.
