I deleted files (or everything) by accident — can they be restored?
Accidental deletions can often be undone — it depends on whether you have an earlier copy, whether the server still exists, and, if it was fully deleted, the retention window. Here's how to work through it.
What determines whether files come back
The best case is that you have an earlier copy you downloaded yourself — those can simply be re-uploaded. If you don't, but the server still exists, some recovery may still be possible if you reach us quickly. And if the whole server was deleted, recovery falls under our deleted-server retention window.
How to restore accidentally deleted files
- First, check for an earlier copy you downloaded — re-upload the missing files via Files or SFTP. (See the Backups section for the current manual process.)
- No copy, but the server still exists? Contact us quickly — some recovery may be possible.
- If the whole server was deleted, follow the deleted-server recovery steps: open a ticket with the server's Console URL from your browser history.
Warning: Without an earlier copy and outside the retention window, deleted files can't be recovered. This is why keeping your own copies matters — especially while our automated Backups tab is being upgraded.
