How do I transfer files between my servers, or to another user?
Moving files between servers — or handing them to someone else — uses tools you already have: the Files manager, SFTP, and archives. Here's how to do it cleanly.
Your options for moving files
The simplest approach is to route files through your own computer: download from the source and upload to the destination. For sharing with another person, you can either give them the file directly or use subuser access to place it on their server for them. And for a whole server, a downloaded backup can be uploaded and extracted onto the target.
How to transfer files
- Between your own servers: download or archive the files from one server (via the Files tab or SFTP), then upload them to the other.
- To another person's server: give them the file to upload, or use Users (subuser access) to place it there yourself.
- For a whole server: a backup you've downloaded can be uploaded and extracted onto the target server.
Tip: Archive a big folder into a single file first, then move that one file — it's faster and far cleaner than transferring thousands of small files.
