Can I run snapshots or a specific old version (1.8, 1.12.2, etc.)?
Whether you want a nostalgic 1.8 PvP server or a specific 1.12.2 modpack base, running older versions (and snapshots) is fully supported. Here's how.
Older versions and snapshots
Yes — the Versions tab lists many older versions and their builds; just pick the one you need. Older versions run fine — the main thing is to match your players' client version.
For snapshots or anything not listed, upload the JAR manually.
Step-by-step
- Open the Versions tab and look for your version in the catalog.
- Pick the version and build, and install.
- For a snapshot or unlisted version, open Files, upload the JAR, and rename it to
server.jar. - Start from the Console.
Tip: Make sure your players connect with the matching client version — an old server won't accept a newer client and vice versa.
