What's the benefit of Paper over Vanilla or Spigot?
If you run a plugin-based server, Paper is almost always the right choice. It's a highly optimized fork of Spigot that runs the same worlds and plugins — just far better.
What Paper gives you
Paper is a highly optimized fork of Spigot. It runs the same worlds and supports the same plugins, but with:
- Far better performance (higher TPS, less lag).
- More configuration options.
- Built-in fixes.
For almost any plugin-based server, Paper is the recommended choice. Purpur (a Paper fork) adds even more tweaks if you want them.
Switching to Paper
- Open the Versions tab.
- Pick Paper (or Purpur for extra tweaks).
- Choose your Minecraft version and build, and install (Wipe Data off to keep your world).
- Start from the Console.
Tip: Switching from Vanilla or Spigot to Paper is effectively free performance — same worlds, same plugins, better TPS.
