Is a purchased/extra port permanent or a monthly add-on, and for Java or Bedrock?
Extra ports on HumbleServers are free and permanent — there is nothing to buy monthly. This article clears up how ports work, what protocols they carry, and how they differ from a dedicated IP.
How extra ports work
Extra ports are free and stay with your server. You allocate them yourself in the Ports tab; there is no monthly add-on to purchase for them.
A single port can carry either protocol depending on what you point at it:
- TCP — Java Minecraft, proxy backends.
- UDP — Bedrock/Geyser, voice chat.
If a specific setup needs many ports, just add them — there is no cost and no cap to worry about for normal use.
Ports vs. a dedicated IP
These are two different things, and it is easy to mix them up.
- Extra ports — free allocations on your existing server IP, added in the Ports tab.
- Dedicated IP — a separate, optional add-on at $4/month if you specifically want your own IP. This is not required just to open ports.
Tip: You do not need a dedicated IP to run Bedrock, a proxy, or a web map — those only need extra port allocations, which are free.
Frequently asked questions
Are extra ports a monthly charge? No. They are free and permanent. You do not buy them as an add-on.
Do ports work for both Java and Bedrock? Yes. A port carries TCP (Java, proxies) or UDP (Bedrock/Geyser, voice) based on what you configure it for.
When would I need a dedicated IP instead? Only if you specifically want your own IP address. That is a separate $4/month add-on; extra ports themselves cost nothing.
