Minecraft

Is my current plan enough, or will it lag/crash with my setup?

Not sure whether your current plan will keep up with your setup? A few minutes of checking tells you far more than guessing. Here's a quick self-check you can run before players notice a problem.

Quick self-check

  1. Start the server empty and watch RAM in the Console — if it's already near the cap with nobody on, you're undersized.
  2. Load your normal player count and run a spark/timings report (or watch TPS).
  3. If TPS drops below ~19–20 under load, or you hit OutOfMemory, upgrade RAM and/or move to a Ryzen tier.

Before you spend more

Often "lag" isn't a hardware problem at all. Software choice (Paper), pre-generation, and view-distance frequently fix it without upgrading.

Tip: Software choice, pre-generation, and view-distance often fix "lag" for free — check the performance answers before spending more.

Frequently asked questions

What TPS is too low? If TPS drops below roughly 19–20 under load, that's your sign to upgrade RAM and/or move to a Ryzen tier.

How do I know if I'm undersized at idle? Start the server empty and watch the Console — if RAM is near the cap with nobody online, you're too small.
