Minecraft
Which plan for a specific big modpack (ATM9, DawnCraft, SkyFactory, etc.)?
Big-name CurseForge packs are some of the most demanding things you can run in Minecraft. If you're planning to host All the Mods 9, DawnCraft, SkyFactory, or similar, size generously from the start.
Sizing for heavy packs
Heavy packs like All the Mods 9, DawnCraft, Better MC, or Valhelsia are demanding. Plan on:
- 8–12GB minimum for a few players.
- 12–16GB+ for a group.
Run them on a Ryzen (Supreme/Ultimate) tier for good TPS.
Getting it right
- Check the pack's own recommended server RAM on CurseForge.
- Match or exceed that recommendation.
- Choose a Ryzen (Supreme/Ultimate) tier for TPS under load.
- Pre-generate the world to smooth out exploration lag.
Warning: Many big packs recommend a specific RAM floor — going under it causes constant OutOfMemory crashes.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know the exact RAM a pack needs? Check the pack's CurseForge page for its recommended server RAM, and match or exceed it.
Why pre-generate the world? Pre-generation does the heavy chunk work up front, smoothing out lag when players explore.
