Minecraft
Mods need Forge/Fabric — how do I set that up first?
Before you can install mods, your server has to be running a mod loader — Forge, NeoForge, Fabric, or Quilt. Setting that up is a one-click job in the Versions tab.
Setting up a mod loader
- Open the Versions tab.
- Choose Forge (or NeoForge/Fabric/Quilt) and the Minecraft version you want.
- Install — leave Wipe Data off to keep your world.
- Once it's running as a Forge/Fabric server, the Mods tab and the
modsfolder become the place to add mods.
Adding your first mods
After the loader is running, open the Mods tab, install your mods, and restart the server.
Tip: Mods don't run on Vanilla or Paper — the loader has to come first, which is exactly what the Versions tab sets up.
Frequently asked questions
Which loader should I pick? Match whatever your mods target — Forge, NeoForge, Fabric, or Quilt.
Will setting up the loader wipe my world? No — leave "Wipe Data" off in the Versions tab and your world stays.
