Which CurseForge version do I join on for my modpack (e.g. ATM8)?
One of the most common modpack hiccups is joining with the wrong pack version. The fix is simple: match your launcher's modpack version exactly to the one installed on the server. Here's how it works.
Match the version exactly
You must join with the exact same modpack version in your launcher as the one running on the server. For example, if the server runs ATM8 version 1.0.7, then install and launch ATM8 1.0.7 in your launcher. Even a small difference in version can cause a "mod mismatch" kick when you try to connect.
How to line them up
- Check which version the Modpacks tab installed on the server (it installs a specific version).
- Open your launcher and find the same pack.
- Install or update it to that exact version client-side.
- Launch and connect.
Tip: When you update the server pack later, update your launcher to match at the same time — keeping both in lockstep avoids surprise mismatches.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I see the server's pack version? The Modpacks tab shows the version it installed. If you're unsure, note what you selected when installing.
I updated the pack and now I'm kicked — why? Your launcher and server are on different versions again. Match them and the kick goes away.
Does this apply to Fabric packs too? Yes — the exact-version rule is the same for Fabric and Forge packs alike.
