How do plan upgrades work, and does upgrading reset my billing date?

How do I upgrade my plan?

Open your server in the client area, go to Billing and choose Change plan (or click Upgrade in My Servers). Upgrading itself is quick.

An upgrade can be a move to a larger plan or more of a plan option such as RAM — both are done the same way, and both are billed as the pro-rated difference for the time left in your cycle. You can upgrade any time you need more power; there is no penalty for doing it mid-cycle.

Does upgrading reset my renewal or billing date?

No. Your renewal date stays exactly the same as it was before the upgrade.

Upgrading to a bigger plan does not disrupt your billing schedule, and the cycle does not restart. Because the date does not move, you can upgrade whenever you need to without worrying about your billing rhythm changing.

What do I pay when I upgrade mid-cycle?

Only the pro-rated difference for the days remaining in your current billing cycle.

You are never charged the full new-plan price up front just for upgrading mid-cycle. Pro-rating means you cover the gap in price for the time left before your next renewal and nothing more, so you are not double-charged for days you already paid for.

Can I upgrade in the middle of a billing cycle?

Yes. That is exactly what the pro-rated difference covers.
