Billing & Account

What's the difference between suspension, cancellation, and termination?

Suspension, cancellation, and termination sound similar but mean very different things for your server and your data. Here's a clear breakdown so you always know where your service stands.

The three states

  • Suspension — your server is temporarily offline, usually because of an unpaid invoice or a chargeback. Your data is intact; pay or resolve the issue to restore it. A suspended server is held for 10 days.
  • Termination / deletion — after 10 days suspended (or upon cancellation), the server and its files are removed. A $5 restore may be possible if a backup exists.
  • Cancellation — you choose to end the service, either immediately or at the end of your billing cycle. Files are then deleted.

What this means for your data

Your data is safe during suspension but at risk once a server is terminated or cancelled. If you ever plan to cancel, download your files first via the Files manager or SFTP.

Warning: Both termination and cancellation lead to file deletion. Back up anything you want to keep before the server goes away.

Frequently asked questions

Can I recover data after termination or cancellation? Only if a backup still exists. Open a ticket with your old server IP and Console URL; a restore is $5 and isn't guaranteed.

Does cancelling stop future charges? Yes — cancellation ends the service and its renewals. Choose immediate or end-of-cycle when you request it.
